My Adventurous Trip and the Friends Interview

Had the interview @ Friends a couple hours ago.

One particular part of it was rather stressful. I'll tell more later.

For now, I'm going to catch up on four hours of sleep I missed.

My day started at 5:20 today. I finished packing quickly, put my things in the car, double-checked my room to make sure I didn't forget anything important, left the house and made my way to Manhattan.

I made it to the toll booth outside Topeka and began to search for my wallet. Yea, definitely did not have my wallet. Neither did I have enough spare change to pay the toll. I ended up pulling over to the side of the toll road and searching my luggage for any change at all.

I didn't really find much in the way of legal tender but did find stamps, which I wagered could possibly be 'traded' for payment. I could have also given my credit card number (which I conveniently have memorized) and proven my identity with my mountain of credit card statements and my expired passport.

That was my plan until God told me to get off at the Lawrence service exit and go to McDonald's and ask for money. After being convicted by my lack of fealty to God's voice, I hunkered down and made ready to be humbled.

I pulled into the McDonald's parking lot, parked, then prayed that I would be led to the person who would be gracious enough to give a stranger money for the toll. I got out of my car and waited for about two minutes, just standing in the parking lot simultaneously waiting for the Lord's direction and dreading it being given.

Suddenly, out walks a sea of women clad in K-State purple walking my direction. This was it. Stupidly, I still had the stamps in my hand and proceeded to ask for two dollars and offered compensation in stamps. Most walk by or looked completely perplexed as to what I'm even asking. I felt like an idiot. I take a glance at the van that I now see they're definitely part of a K-State team. I walk around to the driver's window and ask the driver for two dollars for toll.

She says, "Well, you know you can have them bill you later but I'm going to help you out this time." I say, "Oh well, thank you. You ladies are from K-State. What sport do you play?" In my mind I'm thinking, "Ok, womens' sports. K-State. Equestrian, no. Tennis, maybe. Crap, I don't know."
She says, "We're the K-State Golf team. We're in a hurry. We've got a plane to catch." They start to pull out to leave as I awkwardly say, "Oh yea, well, I'm a K-Stater. Good luck."

Perplexed by what just happened, I manage to have the sense to walk back and get in my car and think, "I just got bailed out by the Womens' Golf team... I just bummed two dollars of the coach of womens' golf...at 7:30 in the morning. What?"

I thanked God for the Womens' Golf team and their coach and still baffled, get back on the highway.

As I got back on the highway, I had the inexplicable urge to chant the fight song at full volume and to do so for the next fifteen minutes.

Only today, do I figure out that they are headed for Hawaii for a golf tournament. What a way to spend spring break, golfing in Hawaii!

If I were Coach Knight, I'd be expecting a reimbursement check in the mail.
