Today started slowly with a trip to the rec for my thirty minute run. I've been running weekdays to get back into shape...well, "back into" assumes that I was in shape at some point in my life, so I'm working towards getting into shape for probably the first time in my life. I can run faster than I did at the beginning of the semester. Ok, on to something else...
So I, through multiple means, heard that the Farmers' Coop in Manhattan was giving away free gas from 11a to 1p today. They had free lunch and a tent where, if you answered the question "What is renewable to you?" with a thirty second response, you'd be entered to win a MacBook Air or a portable hard drive of some sort.
So Paul and I hopped in my car and drove to the Manhattan Farmers' Coop thinking that the line would be average. Uhh, wrong. It took us from 12:21 to 1:15 to move half a mile. I shouldn't be complaining, I got a free fill-up. We also got free lunch and talked for thirty seconds about the word 'renewable'. Got a $10 gas card instead. Turns out that the computer is for those entering videos onto the website and registering.
On the way back, we had a couple ideas for videos, most of them ridiculous and containing zero seriousness.
"'R' is for resources, that's what we need, 'E' is for energy, that's we what we want, 'N' for is new 'cuz it can't be old, 'Ew' is for coal because it's dirty, 'A' is for action that's what it takes, 'B' is for biodegradable cuz Earth is our home, 'L' is for letters to write your senators, and 'E' is for Ethanol, that's what we're told."
Other ideas were less plausible than this one. If we do ever make one, it's gonna be absolutely ridiculous.
On a separate note, I don't really think that ethanol is the answer we need right now. I'm a proponent of the solar and wind energy in the short-term and when fusion comes around in the next 60 years, that will solve the world's energy problems. We'll have to find something else to fight about.
Random human behavior I noticed (and remembered long to blog about it):
Crossing the crosswalk without a signal on a fairly empty street (I'm 100% okay with that). What I'm not too sure about is why everyone immediately preceding the walk across the street, finds it irresistible and subconsciously pushes the crosswalk button anyway. Most times, the mishap doesn't affect me because I'm traveling in the other direction. Still....why do people do that? Do you?
**2 Minutes Later**
K, just got a letter in the mail from Friends University, the grad school in Lenexa, which I'm hoping to go. Haven't opened it yet. Boy, this now I know how stressful the "getting the letter" process is. Considered calling the guy to read it for me. I'll just do it myself.
Here we go...
Is it weird that I'm lengthening my stressful anticipation just to blog about it in real-time? Oh well.
After one unfolding, only the first line is showing...
First line, "Dear Chris:"
Well that helps a lot..
Ok, so I've been invited to interview with the faculty, current students and other applicants on March 13th. What a way to start my Spring Break. What am I talking about...I'm not in school anymore. I can interview from either 9a-12p or 1p to 4p. I'm considering both of these. If you can convince me of either of them, I just might lean towards one.
On a separate note, Thursday is going to be a great day, weather-wise. Maybe some late-night climbing could take place?
